Description

Rivesaltes appellation has inherited its name from the town of Rivesaltes, which means “Rives High” in Catalan. It is the first name of fortified wines in the area. The characteristics of the soil include limestone chalk and clay with rolled pebbles from the foothills of the Corbières mountain range. In 1945, just before the end of WWII, the Domaine Singla represented 300 Acres and Vin Doux Naturel was a favorite drink of the French people: the production was then much larger than today. An almost forgotten wine with a long history, dating back to the Vatican archives of 1394, it comes from the southern-most appellation in France, on the Spanish Mediterranean border.
